Support Lindsey Graham

Friday, 01 March 2013 15:15

Do you remember all the talk during the last election about undecided voters in the battleground states? Now, instead of hinging on a few voters, the future of immigration reform rests on the shoulders of one man, Senator Lindsay Graham from South Carolina.

One of the “good guys” on this issue, Senator Graham hails from a conservative state where only about five percent of the population is Hispanic. He is under immense pressure from both local and national groups opposing immigration reform that would address the status of those who are undocumented. One of the few politicians who dare put a human face on this issue, Graham was quoted in a Wall Street Journal article as responding to a heckler who yelled “Send them home,” by saying “Lets just be honest with each other. How many of you would sit on the sidelines and watch your grandmother get up and go.”

We need to let Senator Graham know he is not alone. He needs visible support from the people in South Carolina who want Immigration Reform now. Whether you are a Republican or a Democrat, a moderate, a liberal, or a conservative, if you live in South Carolina and you want immigration reform, write a letter, send an email, or make a phone call to Senator Graham's office and let him know you support him.

If you don't live in South Carolina, scour your address book for people who live in South Carolina who support reasonable immigration reform and send this plea on to them. Immigration reform is near the tipping point and you can be a key part of guaranteeing that this country moves in a direction that we can be proud of in the future.
